1850. They were both listed as being from Holland. His declaration of Intent to become a US
citizenship was dated May 2, 1855. Then he bought property on Aug 17, 1855, a total of 70 83/100
acres for $500 from Thomas Backeus & his wife. He married Catharine Krautmann on Oct 30, 1855Herman died April 27th, 1857. Sacred Heart Catholic Church (in Rich Fountain, Osage County, MO) lists his age at death as 34. His estate was administered by Caspar Liberton. His property was appraised at a value of $4000 and was sold to Caspar Liberton for $471. Herman's widow was referred as Katherine Voss at the time (May 30, 1860). When she went to sell the property, it was sold by Gerhard Voss & wife (Catherine's 3rd husband) to Joseph Tillman on Mar 12, 1866 for $100.
