Lena Koldewijn groeide op als enig kind boven de banketbakkerszaak van haar ouders in Hoorn aan de Gedempte Turfhaven. Later stond zij zelf ook in de winkel. In 1929 trouwde zij met Piet Veelders (1904-1961) en kreeg drie kinderen, Nel (1931-1981), Han (1935-2018) en Cobie (1938-1972). Twee jaar na het overlijden van haar echtgenoot, in 1963, verkocht zij de banketbakkerij. Zij woonde haar hele leven in Hoorn. In 1989 overleed ze in haar slaap.
