Notes about Andries de VOS

Andries De Vos was born in Beverwijck, North Holland. He was a Huguenot. Deputy Director of Rensselaerwyck. SOURCE: NY Gen Y Bio Record Vol 14, p 186. See also O'Callaghan's History of New Netherlands Vol 1, pp 433-44.
Occupation: Carpenter & operated saw and gristmill.
Sailed from Amsterdam by den Eyckenboom, May 17, 1641; arrived at New Amsterdam in August 1641.
He occupied a farm [at Bethlehem?] from 1642 and in Oct. 1648 is referred to as gerechts persoon (member of the court). Jan. 21, 1649, the court of the colony decided that he must pay f62:10 a year for the patroon's rights of the mill at Bethlehem. Oct. 18, 1650, he entered into an agreement to lease the creek south of Thomas Chambers' farm for six years at an annual rent of f75 and to erect thereon a saw- and grist-mill, but Feb. 16, 1651, he was released from his obligation on the ground of inconvenience. He was a brother-in-law of Barent Pietersz Koijemans.
He married on 8 Mar 1624/25, in Holland, to Margrietje Coeymans also spelled as KOIJEMANS, (a dau. of Pietersz Koijemans), who died in Mar 1664/54 in Albany. One record says that a child died with her. She is believed to be the mother (Andries may have had a second wife), of the following five children:

4. Geertruy
5. Arent Andries
