Johannes was als K.N.I.L. militair (nr. 45262) gelegerd in Tjerebon (N.O.I.) en tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog door het Japanse Leger op 17-08-1915 krijgsgevangene gmaakt in Bandoeng (Indonesia).

Uit de persoonskaart van de Burgerlijke Stand blijkt dat Johannes voor de eerste keer met Eugenie Alida Gunther huwde (waarschijnlijk tussen 1916 en 1924), vervolgens ca. 1926 van haar scheidde, doch in december 1941 in Batavia (N.O.I.) opnieuw met haar huwde.

Uit het Bevolkingsregister Amsterdam (Tijdelijk Verblijf) blijkt vervolgens dat Johannes, woonachtig in Tjerebon (N.O.I.), op 20-06-1925 tijdelijk is ingeschreven in de Spuistraat 82 te Amsterdam, is opgeroepen om te verschijnen (wellicht in verband met de echtscheiding), maar in ieder geval tot 14-11-1925 niet is verschenen.

Uit de eerste huwelijksperiode is dochter Elisabeth Wilhelmina Klingers geboren die later bij Koninklijk Besluit haar achternaam Klingers wijzigde in: Hildebrand.
Johannes is ongeveer 5 maanden na het overlijden van echtgenote Eugenie Alida Gunther teruggekeerd naar Nederland en op 18-11-1946 ingeschreven in het Bevolkings-Register van Amsterdam.
