Engelbertus is blijkens een notariële akte van 21-04-1752 op 23-10-1741 als soldaat in dienst van de V.O.C. (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie - Kamer Amsterdam) met het schip 'Popkensburg' (Type: Spiegelretourschip) vanuit Texel via Kaap de Goede Hoop vertrokken naar Batavia (Nederlandsch-Indië). Het schip is wegens lekkage in ca. 1745 afgelegd in Enkhuizen.

Bij Notariele Verklaring dd. 21-04-1752 laat moeder Jenneke Bloemendaal de getuigen: Jan van der Elft en Anthony ter Bogt verklaren te weten dat haar zoon Engelbertus ter Bogt in 1741 als soldaat in dienst van de VOC naar Nederlandsch Oost-Indie (Batavia) is vertrokken en nimmer is teruggekeerd en aldus mag worden verondersteld dat hij is overleden (gelijk ook zijn vader Lambertus ter Bogt vele jaren daarvoor) en voorts dat Engelbertus ongehuwd was. Voorts verklaren de getuigen niet te weten of ooit gehoord te hebben dat Engelbertus een testament of andere 'acten van uiterste wille' over zijn nalatenschap heeft gedeponeerd.
