Flora was een dochter van Isaac Salomon Manheim en Betsy Andries Aronson. Rond 1879/80 emigreerde het gezin Manheim naar Engeland. De British Census Houshold Record vermeldt dat in 1881 gevestigd is op het adres Alfred Place 37, Camden Town, Londongevestigd zijn Isaac Manheim, 37 y o, b. Alkmaar, Musician; Betsy Manheim, 30 y o., wife; Cristina Manheim 4 y o, daughter; Flora Manheim 3 y.o., daughter; - en verder nog acht andere inwonenden.
Vader Isaac was violist en ook Flora werd violist. Zij leidde het Winter Ladies' Orchestra. Zo onmoette zij Simon van Lier, die ook violist was, de oprichter van het Eastbourne Grand Hotel Orchestra. Simon was een zoon van Felix van Lier en Naatje Frank.
Flora stapte over naar Simons orkest. Simon en Flora kregen een relatie en hun eerste dochter, Felicia (Fifi) werd geboren in 1902. Beatrix (Trixie), hun tweede dochter, werd geboren in 1910, het jaar dat Flora en Simon trouwden. Een derde dochter,Eudora (Dori) werd geboren in 1913.
Het is waarschijnlijk geen gemakkelijk huwelijk geweest; hoe dan ook, in 1927 gingen de echtelieden uit elkaar. Simon bleef wonen in de buurt van Londen, Flora ging terug naar Nederland en zij kocht een huis in Scheveningen.

Dochter Beatrix trouwde in 1934 - als eerste - de jonge jurist Leonard Frank; zij woonden in Amsterdam en kregen drie zoons.
Dochter Felicia trouwde ook een jurist, haar neef Machiel Wolf; zij woonden in Twente, tenslotte in Goor, en kregen een dochter.
Het lukte Felicia en Machiel hun dochtertje te laten onderduiken voordat zij zelf werden opgepakt; het dochtertje heeft de oorlog overleefd.Via Vught en Westerbork kwamen de ouders in Auschwitz terecht waar zij werden vermoord.

Leonard Frank werd ook opgepakt, via Westerbork naar Auschwitz vervoerd en vermoord. Beatrix en haar drie zoons stonden op de Barneveld-lijst; nadat die bescherming was vervallen werden zij via Westerbork naar Theresienstadt vervoerd. Moeder en de zoontjes hebben daar de oorlog overleefd.
Dochter Dori emigreerde in 1938 of 1939 naar de VS waar zij trouwde. Zij overleed in 2004.
