Loet heeft zijn pogingen om uit Duitse gevangenschap de vrije wereld te bereiken, beloond gezien, want op 21 maart vocht hij in het verzet, na vele maanden in concentratiekampen te zijn geweest, in het Amerikaanse leger, helaas slechts voor kort: 3dagen later sneuvelde hij na de verovering van Darmstadt bij Langen-Darmstadt.

Loet was reeds in de meidagen van 1940 als korporaal bij de officiersopleiding in militaire dienst geweest. Hierna hervatte hij zijn studie in de mijnbouw, tot eind 1942 de Duitse bemoeiingen op het gebied der universiteiten steeds sterker werden. Na een tijd praktisch werken dook hij in mei 1943 volledig onder en werd hij medewerker van de Studenten Contactgroep, o.a. een tijd lang vertegenwoordiger voor Noord-Holland.

Op 5 mei '44 werd hij door het gewestelijk arbeidsbureau te Delft in de val gelokt en uitgeleverd aan de Duitsers. Na een verblijf in Amersfoort werd híj 17 augustus '44 overgebracht naar het concentratiekamp te Hinsert bij Trier. In oktober volgde bij het naderen van de Geallieerde troepen transport naar Finthen bij Mainz. In november ondernam Loet een ontvluchtingspoging, welke mislukte. Een tweede poging in maart '45 had succes, echter met de vermelde noodlottige afloop. Loet was toen 25 jaar.
