    Theo overleed op 18 september1944 voor de kust van West-Sumatra. Als krijgsgevangene werd hij op 16 september met 2500 anderen uit de haven van Tandjoeng Priok gevoerd op het schip Junyo Maru. Aan boord waren ook nog 4200 indonesische dwangarbeiders. Op 18 september werd dit schip ter hoogte van het plaatsje Bengkulu bij vergissing getorpedeerd door de Britse onderzeeboot HMS Tradewind. Bij deze verschrikkelijke scheepsramp kwamen ongeveer 5620 mensen om het leven.
