Notes about Antonius Johannes Kersten

Anton Kersten en zijn vrouw herrinerde het volgende: Vurig karakter, Hij had een kar met wagen, Anton vertelde dat hij hem op de Sint Annastraat stond om wat klusjes te krijgen. Hij was niet heel ondernemend, maar dat kan ook komen omdat hij al vanaf ~50 jaar verkalking had en mentaal achteruit ging. Anton zei dat Wim het er het beste voor elkaar had en ook pienter was. De oude Anton wilde eerst niet dat Wim een vrachtauto kocht, en vond dat hij het met een kar en paard moest doen. Annie vertelde dat toen Anton in Heerde was weinig kinderen kwamen want ze schaamde zich een beetje. Annie bracht hem soms met de bus terug naar Nijmegen. Hij ging soms met een bakje water achter Annie aan om haar nat te maken. Toen hij dichtbij was gooide hij het bakje maar die was al leeg en hij zei "potdomme".

In Malden woonde ze aan de Droogse straat maar die was afgebrand. De jonge Anton was vergeten in het huis en zijn zus Liesbet heeft hem uit het brandende huis gered.

Ze woonde aan de Grootsestal en tijdens de oorlog zat in Heumensoord Canadezen en Amerikanen en aan hun kant Duitsers. Ze gingen vaak aan de geallieerden vragen of zij wat te eten mochten. Een keer werd er geschoten en een soldaat pakte jonge Anton vast en liet hem schuilen onder een jeep/tank.
