      In de Schager Courant van 7 oktober 1875 op pagina 2 zet Dirk een advertentie dat hij zich gevestigd heeft in de zaak van M. Meurs en beveelt zich beleefd aan in ieders gunst en recommandatie.

      Op 19 mei 1877 opent Dirk een Bottelarij & Slijterij aan het Noord A 42 in Schagen volgens een advertentie in de Schager Courant van 17 mei 1877 op pagina 3. Later noemt hij het een Bierhalle waar vele biersoorten te koop zijn. Ook gaat hij zelf koolzuurhoudende dranken maken. In januari van het jaar 1880 wordt het kapitale pand openbaar te koop aangeboden door notaris A. Vonk. Het blijkt dat Dirk helaas failliet gegaan is. In het Nieuws Van De Dag van maandag 19 januari 1880 staat een advertentie waarin 7000 gulden wordt geboden voor de Herberg. De Herberg bestaat uit een uitspanning, inrijstal, tevens handel in bieren en mineraalwaterfabriek. Voor tuin, weiland en boet wordt 865 gulden geboden.
