volgens overlevering is een van der weij doodgeschoten door het verzet voor zijn woonhuis. De schoten c.q.het schot zou vanuit een terrein van de Staatsmijn Maurits zijn gebeurd. Reden liquidatie:
Hij zou blaadjes van de duitsers, NSB bezorgd hebben.


 


Er is maar één van der Weij te vinden in die in Limburg tijdens de oorlog is overleden en dit is deze Johannes van der Weij. Johannes is overleden op 8 september 1944, dat is vlak voor de bevrijding van Geleen op 18 september 1944. (12 september 1944 Mesch - Eijsden bevrijd)


In literatuur op internet (via google en wikipedia etc ) is niets te vinden over een liquidatie in Geleen en de naam van der Weij komt niet voor..

Oudste voorouder van Johannes is  Pieter Aan van der Weij geb. 1774 in Westergeest; zijn vader heette nog niet van der Weij maar heet Aan Fokkes en moeder Ymken Fokkes (geboren Loonstra)
