      Gouden medaille voor verdiensten (Op 4-2-1891 is aan de majoor der Chinezen
      te Batavia LTH de gouden medaille voor burgerlijke verdiensten toegekend als
      erkenning van de diensten door hem als officier zijner natie gedurende 20 jaren
      aan den lande bewezen. Die plechtige uitreiking wordt verslagen op 18-2-1891.
      Alle Chinese officieren en inlandse ambtenaren als ook de inlandse en Chinese
      wijkmeesters waren in groot tenue aldaar tegenwoordig. Ieder wordt zijn plaats
      gewezen. De resident en assistent resident komen aan. Die verzoekt de majoor
      naar binnen te leiden. Vergezeld van de ceremoniemeesters komt de majoor op
      en na een korte begroeting begint de secretaris het Koninklijk besluit voor te
      lezen, waarbij aan dit verdienstelijke hoofd der Chinezen in Batavia deze hoge
      onderscheiding was toegekend. De secretaris herinnerde daarna in goed
      gekozen bewoordingen aan de grote diensten door de majoor gedurende de 12
      jaar dat hij dat ambt vervulde aan de regering bewezen en zijn ijverige
      bemoeiingen om steeds rust en orde onder zijn landgenoten te handhaven.
      Bepaaldelijk zijn belangrijke diensten bij het oproer der Chinezen te Tangerang.
      Zichtbaar getroffen door deze waarderende woorden dankte de majoor voor de
      hoge onderscheiding hem te beurt gevallen en maakte van deze gelegenheid
      tevens gebruik om zijn dank te betuigen aan de hem ondergeschikte Chinese
      en inlandse ambtenaren voor hun hulp en steun in zijn soms zo moeilijk ambt.
      De assistent resident beantwoordde deze rede en wees o.a. de chinese
      titularissen op het goede voorbeeld hun gegeven door hun hoofd en drukte hij
      het vertrouwen uit dat deze onderscheiding aan de eerste van hen te beurt
      gevallen, allen zou aansporen zich een dergelijke eer waardig te maken. Nadat
      deze met een buiging op deze worden geantwoord hadden, was de plechtigheid
      afgelopen en werd de majoor door de inlandse en Chinese ambtenaren
      uitgeleide gedaan naar zijn woning, waar de stoet met muziek ontvangen en
      nog menig glas champagne op de gezondheid van de begiftigde geledigd werd.)
