Notes about Cornelius Isaac Gelderblom

He left Schilluinen,( Schipluyden/ Schelluijne), Gorinchem (Netherlands) around 1787 and by 1798 was a custodian of the Swellendam church. According to the newsletter DE GELDERBLOM they only had two children Izak Johannes and Alida Helena. The name is spelt Gelderblom, Gelderbloem, Gelderbloom.

 

The origin of the name Gelderblom can possibly be attributed to an outdoor display sign. Gelderblomme originally appeared on the the coat of arms of Gelderland, but it was later replaced by a lion. They were however very popular on outdoor signs.

 

His wife remarries in 1805 to Friedrich Leemkeulder, which probably means he was dead by then.

 

According to notes from Gran his children were: Isaac Johannes, Magdalena Petronella who married Johannes Jacobus Coetzer inn 1833, Cornelius Jacobus Johannes who married Magdalena Breitenbach in 1838, and a Hans Gelderblom who married Andriesa Susara Lombard with children Endam Johannes, Barry, Hennie, Feltus and Frans.
