Notes about Bernardus COOPS


De Molenweg in Halle herinnert nu nog steeds aan de stenen beltmolen, met in dekunstmatig opgeworpen heuvel de inrit van de molen. Deze molen werd in 1848 gebouwd door J.C. Horsting, de rentmeester van kasteel De Slangenburg. Hij was de vader van de bouwer van de Wittebrinksemolen. In 1866 werd de molenaar van de watermolen in Lochem, de heer G.H. Coops, eigenaar van de Halse molen. Het geslacht Coops komt van oorsprong uit Doetinchem en leverde in de zestiende eeuw al molenaars in Zelhem. In oude aktes lezen wij dan ook al: Coops, die muller van Selm, is met aan zekerheid grenzende waarschijnlijkheid de oudste voorvader van het molenaarsgeslacht. In rekeningen van de stad Doetinchem aan het eind van de zeventiende eeuw worden Hendrik, Derck en Jan Coops genoemd als pachters van het stadsgemaal van Doetinchem. Dit gemaal bestond in die tijd uit zowel een wind- als een waterradmolen.

De Halse beltmolen is tot 1925 als windmolen in gebruik geweest. Regelmatig moest molenaarsknecht Johan Veenink naar het station in Zelhem om met zijn paard en hoge wagen maïs, et cetera op te halen. Inmiddels was de molenbelt afgegraven en was er rondom de molen al een nieuw bedrijfsgebouw gebouwd waar de molen binnenin stond. Later is er nog diverse keren uitgebreid en zijn er siloမs bijgebouwd. De komst van de petroleummotoren maakte dat men niet meer afhankelijk was van de wind. In de tweede wereldoorlog is de molen door bommen dermate getroffen, dat hij als korenmolen niet meer bruikbaar was om zijn werk te verrichten.
In 1955 zijn de laatste restanten van de wieken en ook het kruigedeelte om de kap te kunnen draaien er afgehaald. Daardoor degradeerde de molen tot een peperbus. In de jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw is de romp geheel gesloopt en er is nu niets meer terug te vinden van de korenmolen, die eens de trots van Halle was. Er staat nu een moderne maalderij aan de Molenweg.
Op 2-3-1900 Krijgt Bernardus Coops toestemming voor het plaatsen van een petroleummotor in windkorenmolen Halle G25, kadastraal D535.
