  With great sadness and heavy hearts the family regret to announce the sudden passing of Geertruida Burton on April 7, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
  Born in Oude Wetering, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Hermanus and Johanna (Reichwein).
  In 1946, Trudy arrived from Holland through Pier 21 as a war bride and immediately fell in love with the beauty of Cape Breton.
  She enjoyed her career as a personal care worker at Spring Garden Villa, Sydney.
  A devoted mother who took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  Trudy is survived by her seven children, John (Cory Wolfgram), New Hampshire, Patsy Brown, North Sydney, Carol (Barrie Reid), Millstream, Joanne (Greg Baker), Lake Echo, David (Christa), Upper Whitehead Bay, Norman (Joan Martell), D’Escousse, and Kenneth (Michelle Doucette), Sydney Mines; as well as 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Annie, Maria, Hennie and Mien, and brother, Ton, all of the Netherlands.
  Besides her parents, Trudy was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 2000, brothers, Koos, Herman, Cornelis, Johan and Gerard, sister, Corrie and son-in-law, Kenny Brown.
  Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request of the family. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. A reception will follow in the church basement. Interment to take place at a later date.
  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
