Notes about Johanna Dederika "Rika" Joghems

Op 7 april 1908 wordt zij opgenomen in het Rijkskrankzinnigengesticht Hoogsteeg 128 te Medeblik. De diagnose is Insania Neurotica waarbij aangetekend wordt dat de duur van de krankzinigheid voor de opname onbekend is. Later, in 1909, wordt de diagnose veranderd in Dementia. Zij overlijdt in het gesticht op 3 juli 1909.
Uit de registers blijkt dat er ook veel vrouwen zitten die een misdrijf hebben begaan. In die tijd was dit normaal, want een krankzinnigengesticht in die tijd werd gebruikt voor wat nu TBS zou heten.
Dit wordt ondersteunt door een uitspraak van Kat, geneesheer-directeur van het rijkskrankzinnigengesticht Medemblik. Hij zei: 'Verlos het geneeskundig gesticht van deze elementen (de misdadiggers)
die er historisch en practisch niet in behoren en interneer ze, zoo nodig
in een bijzonder asyl, dat op hun behoeften is ingericht"
