    Het was een goeie mens, ons vader en hij was boer in hart en nieren. Niet zo'n hele grote: een paar koeien en paarden en een paar bunder 'Brabantse klei' tegen de Amer aan. Erg rijk zijn vader en moeder er ook niet van geworden, maar dat hoefde ook niet. Hun leven in Drimmelen en de Bergse polder was eenvoudig, maar ze werden er wel heel oud mee. 63 jaar zijn ze met elkaar getrouwd geweest. Hun trouwdag 21 april, is in het leven van de kinderen ingegrift vanwege het feestelijk karakter van die dag. Toen met de komst van de jachthaven hun grond werd opgeëist, leefden ze een aantal jaren in de Bergse polder. De levensomstandigheden daar waren erg sober: geen waterleiding en geen electriciteit, terwijl de electriciteitscentrale zich op een steenworp afstand bevond. En toch leefden ze daar vele jaren heel gelukkig. Daarna vond vooral moeder de omstandigheden in hun huis aan de Schoolstraat veel beter. Want hier woonden ze midden in het dorp met 's woensdagsmorgens de wekelijkse markt. Voor veel vrienden en kennissen was de aanblik van het huisje met die twee mensen voor het raam een uitnodiging om er een 'bakske' te gaan drinken. Zo werd vader 90 jaar. Hij heeft letterlijk naar zijn laatste verjaardag toegeleefd. Hij wist dat het zijn laatste zou kunnen zijn, want hij was al ruim een jaar echt ziek. Het was een goede middag met vader en moeder, de kinderen, de kleinkinderen en de achterkleinkinderen in Verpleeghuis St. Agnes, waar vader en moeder in deze laatste periode uitstekend werden verzorgd. Het was een goeie mens, ons vader. Hij kwam voor zijn menig uit. Sommigen bestempelden hem wel eens als koppig. Die koppigheid had zo haar lastige kanten. Daar weet Annie, die hem de laatste jaren met zorg omringde, alles van. Maar hij had ook zijn sterke kanten. De standvastigheid waarmee hij jarenlang voor moeder zorgde was ontroerend. Hij leefde met haar en voor haar. Zo eenvoudig was het en daar was niets tussen te krijgen. We zullen zo maar aan hem blijven denken.

    Wij danken u hartelijk voor uw belangstelling en meeleven tijdens de ziekte en bij het overlijden van mijn geliefde man en onze zorgzame vader, schoonvader en opa.

    De uitvaartdienst wordt gehouden op vrijdag 16 februari om 10:30 uur in de H. Bernarduskerk, Kerkstraat te Made. De crematieplechtigheid volgt om 12:30 uur in het crematorium "Maaslanden", Abt van Engelenlaan te Vlijmen.
