Gustaaf Alfons Janssens, geboren te Schilde, 14 mei 1911, dienstnummer: 106/92586, soldaat (machinegeweerschutter) in het 36e Linie Regiment, gesneuveld in Lummen, 12 mei 1940, bij de 8e Compagnie.


Gustaaf woonde in Wijnegem en was niet getrouwd.


Zijn beste vriend was Theophiel Voorspoels, geboren te Nijlen, 23/01/1911, soldaat (machinegeweerschutter) bij het 36e Linie Regiment, gesneuveld in dezelfde slag bij Linkhout, eveneens op 12 mei 1940, bij de 12e Compagnie.


Theophiel woonde in Broechem, was getrouwd en vader van 2 dochters.


Beiden waren machinegeweerschutters en steunden verschillende compagnieën. Theophiel is naar huis gebracht en ligt begraven in Broechem, Gustaaf ligt nog begraven in Lummen.


Gustaafs zwager ging kort na de slag naar Lummen om zijn stoffelijk overschot te identificeren. Hij zei dat hij minstens 7-8 keer door een machinegeweer in het hoofd was geschoten. Zijn moeder besloot om hem begraven te laten op het slagveld.

Graf vermeldt foutief 10 mei 1940 als overlijdensdatum, terwijl slag van lummen op 12 mei plaatsvond en deze datum wordt aangegeven in het oorlogsregister (zie: https://www.wardeadregister.be/nl/dead-person?idPersonne=57796 ).
