Notes about Joannes Baptista VAN ACKERBROECK

Op 04-10-1860 overleed Jan Baptist op 65-jarige leeftijd te Merksplas. Zijn kinderen waren tussen 9 en 28 jaar oud. Omdat de meesten thuis op de boerderij bleven, kon het geboer gewoon verder gaan. En ze boerden blijkbaar goed, want enkele jaren later keken ze uit naar een grotere doening.


 


In 1876 werd op den 'Berg' een boerderij verkocht van bijna 29ha grond, verdeeld over 10 kopen "inhoudende eene Huizing met stal, Schuur en verdere gebouwen en aangelegen Bouw-, Hooi-, en Weilanden, Moervelden en Heiden.". De definitieve verkoping had plaats op 'Dijnsdag 8 Augusti 1876' in herberg 'De Pelikaan', bij Verschueren te Zondereigen, onder de leiding van notaris Van Regemoorter, van Hoogstraten.


Voor een bedrag van 16.000 fr kochten de kinderen 'VAN ACKERBROECK' kopen 1, 4 en 7, samen ca 26 ha groot.


 


Hierin was ook begrepen bijna 1,5 ha moerveld en ruim 9 ha heiden, genaamd de 'GELSCHE HEI'. Hier vond men zowel turf voor de open haard als het strooisel voor de koeien in de potstal.


De verkoper ging akkoord dat in de verkoop niet begrepen was "hetgeen er af te nemen is voor het maken van de steenweg MERXPLAS naar de statie van Weelde". Het aanleggen van deze weg zou gebeurd zijn omstreeks 1890.


 


Fons Van Ackerbroeck herinnert zich nog de vele karresporen die vanaf de steenovens naar de weg liepen, de ene naast de andere, in een grote waaiervorm. Werd hierlangs dan steen vervoerd?


De pasgekochte boerderij bevond zich langs het karrespoor naar het Bergske. Net voorbij de weg naar de molen stond eerst de schuur, volledig met stro gedekt. Achter het kleine huisje bevond zich het karkot, en dan volgde de oude Kempense hoeve, het dak bedekt met stro.


 


In 1927 werd deze schilderachtige boerewoning vervangen door een moderne hoeve.
