Op 20 april 1856 kwam Peter Jaspers naar Meijel. Hij was op 30 april 1824 in Geldrop geboren als zoon van heel- en vroedmeester Peter Jaspers en diens vrouw Ida van de Leur.

In Nederweert had de jonge Peter het vak van molenaar geleerd. In Meijel werd hij met zijn
broers Jan, Joseph en Antje mede-eigenaar van de molen die in 1857 in Den-Haag gebouwd
werd, de latere Molen van Derckx.

Peter was al snel bevriend met Hendrika Lenders, zus van een andere mede-eigenaar van
de molen Jan Adriaan Lenders. Op 11 mei 1857 trouwden Peter Jaspers en Hendrika. Ze
vierden hun feest in herberg de Zwaan bij de kerk, het ouderlijk huis van Hendrika. In die
herberg gingen ze tijdelijk wonen.

Peter kocht van Arnold Lenders perceel A.485 in de Haag, dat wil zeggen 19 aren grond
langs de Kalisstraat. Daar bouwde hij zijn huis, op de plaats van het huidige pand 't Pelmke.

Ze konden er op 25 september 1859 gaan wonen, maar ze hielden bij de kerk wel hun
winkel op de plaats waar nu de parkeerplaats van hotel Oranje is.

Peter werd naast zijn werk als molenaar en winkelier ook enige jaren raadslid en ambtenaar
van de burgerlijke stand. Na de dood van Hendrika in 1868 trouwde hij met Johanna van
de Eijnden uit Asten. In 1893 vertrokken zij naar Aarle-Rixtel waar hij verder ging als
molenaar.
