Notes about Leonardus Goorts (van Callis)

Hoewel Lennert als afstammeling van Godefridus (1650-1748) formeel de achternaam van Callis zou moeten gebruiken, gaat hij toch als Lennert Gorts of Goorts, dus zoon van Goort, door het leven. De voornaam Goort wordt daarmee in feite achternaam. Waarschijnlijk heeft zijn vader de naam van Callis in het dagelijks leven wisselend gebruikt.

Gebruik van de voornaam van de vader om daarmee aan te geven wiens zoon of dochter men was, was in die tijd heel gebruikelijk. Godefridus' kleinzoon Godefridus gebruikt ook de naam 'van Callis' en diens kinderen en hun kinderen dragen ook die achternaam. Dit duidt er op dat de achternaam nog steeds leefde en dus uit het verleden is meegenomen. Ook voor Lennert betekent het dat hij eigenlijk een 'van Callis' is. De kinderen van Lennert gebruiken in het algemeen vanaf hun huwelijk de naam Lenners of Lenders, soms echter ook wisselend de naam Goorts en Lenners/Lenders. Niet uitgesloten is dat in het gebruik van de achternaam Lenners/Lenders door de kinderen van Lennert en zijn vrouw Engel de vroege dood van hun vader en het tweede huwelijk van hun moeder van invloed is geweest in die zin dat de kinderen in het dagelijks leven werden aangeduid als '
die van Engel Lenderts'. Dat doet echter niets af aan het feit dat ook de kinderen van Lennert afstammen van een 'van Callis'.
