    Zijn rang was Wachmann, eenvoudige soldaat dus en waarschijnlijk maakte hij onderdeel uit van een Wacht eenheid van genoemde afdeling.

Bernardus Johannes staat echter wel op een lijst in het boek van Michael Gander en Hubert Titz 2005 "Zwangsarbeiter und Kriegsgefangene in der Grafschaft Bentheim" uitgegeven door de gemeente Nordhorn, Duitsland.
Misschien heeft hij zich vrijgekocht door zich aan te melden voor een functie binnen de Wehrmacht?
