Notes about Hubert Joseph Sijstermans
Hubert werd geboren te Nieuwenhagen, 15 maart 1892, legde 15 augustus 1914 zijn eerste geloften af en werd 29 mei 1920 priester gewijd. Gesterkt door de ziekenzalving overleed hij
24 januari 1976 in het klooster Vroenhof van de Montfortanen te Valkenburg-Houthem.
Hij ligt begraven op het kloosterkerkhof in Schimmert.
Na de humaniora in Schimmert van 1907-1913 studeerde hij van 1914-1920 aan het Montfortaans grootseminarie te Oirschot.
Van 1921-1932 was hij leraar te Schimmert.
Van 1923-1949 verbleef hij, met een korte onderbreking, in Egmond aan Zee. Als predikant van missies en retraites heeft Pater Sijstermans in die jaren aan zeer veel mensen goed mogen doen, waarvoor tallozen hem nog steeds dankbaar zijn. In de moeilijke jaren van 1934-1943 was hij overste en pastoor in Egmond en van 1945-1949 rector van de Carmel aldaar.
Het vertrek uit Egmond is hem zwaar gevallen. Van 1949-1960 was hij achtereenvolgens overste in Berg en Dal, Hoensbroek, Haagse Schouw en weer in Hoenbroek, waar hij daarna nog werkzaam was als assistent. In 1967 dwong zijn gezondheid hem te gaan rusten, maar toch was hij in deze periode nog enige jaren werkzaam als rector bij de zusters in Reifferscheidt (Duitsland).
De laatste jaren rustte hij in ons klooster Vroenhof te Valkenburg-Houthem.
Pater Sijstermans maakte op iedereen die met hem in contact kwam indruk door zijn grote goedheid. Hij stond altijd klaar voor iedereen, was steeds bereid om te helpen, te troosten en te bemoedigen, had alles voor de ander over en vroeg nooit iets voor zichzelf.
Wie zijn zwakke gezondheid kende, stond telkens weer verbaasd over de geweldige energie en inzet van deze goede en oprecht vrome priester. Tot zijn laatste dagen toe heeft hij geprobeerd om zich op de been te houden.
Hij heeft ons gesticht door de kinderlijke blijdschap waarmee hij het sacrament van de zieken ontving en door de vreugde waarmee hij de komst van de Heer verwachtte.
Daarom bidden wij vol vertrouwen dat God Zijn trouwe dienaar opneemt in het eeuwig geluk en de hemelse vreugde.

Mijn herinnering aan heeroom is vrij miniem, ik heb hem hooguit een keer of drie kort gezien en/of gesproken. Hij kwam inderdaad wel over als een hele rustige, vriendelijke man
