Spraakwaterval Jan Klemans zat nooit met zijn mond vol tanden. Hij praatte graag en veel en had over veel zaken een mening, die hij ook graag wilde ventileren. Hij was recht voor zijn raap en kon absoluut niet tegen mensen die om dingen heen draaien. Zijn manier van praten was ook nogal luidruchtig, maar iedereen mocht horen wat hij te zeggen had. Discussies met hem waren altijd levendig en ook vaak vol humor. Hij lustte graag een borreltje en was altijd in voor een kaartspelletje, met name rikken.
Hij had geen auto, maar reed altijd rond op een brommer met windscherm. Ik ben verschillende keren achterop de brommer met hem meegegaan naar Feyenoord-NAC in Rotterdam. Of naar Raamsdonksveer waar in een oud bruggewachtershuisje Anna Roelands, een bejaarde tante van mijn moeder woonde. Wij gingen samen de buitenkant van haar huisje schilderen en aten dan tussen de middag een boterham met gebakken ei, die al een uurje of zo op de kachel had gestaan.
Jan was eerstegraads gymnastiekleraar op de HBS in Oosterhout, het Mgr.Frenckencollege. Hij kreeg al op vrij jonge leeftijd last van hernia en werd op een gegeven moment afgekeurd. Later kreeg hij keelkanker en kwam steeds meer aan de sukkel. Mijn vader en moeder gingen regelmatig met Jan en zijn vrouw Eveline op pad, met name naar hun bungalowtje in Baarle-Nassau. Ze logeerden daar ook regelmatig.
Jan, een echt gezelligheidsmens, had graag mensen om zich heen en was een graag geziene gast op familiefeestjes.
En heel bijzonder, deze drukke, altijd bezig zijnde man, die niet stil kon zitten, had als hobby: borduren. De hele zolder stond vol met zijn werkstukken!
