In voldoening aan hetgeen was vervat in Uw missive d.d. 11 juni jl., heb ik de eer te berichten dat Zwaantje Bruinewoud alhier ten vorige jare op den 14 december is gehuwd met Roelof Steenbergen. Bij dit huwelijk werd een kind gewettigd, Geesje Steenbergen, hetwelk den 20 juli 1872 was geboren. Het gerucht ging dat gezegde Steenbergen niet zoude zijn de vader van dat kind, hetgeen ook waarschijnlijk is. Steenbergen is wegens lichamelijke gebreken uit de dienst bij de nationale militie ontslagen en ook al naar gerucht ten gevolge van een syfilitische ziekte, waaraan hij zeer moet geleden hebben. Naar ingewonnen informatie moet hij ook iemand zijn op wiens gedrag nogal wat te zeggen valt. Hij moet zijn klederen hebben verkocht en zijn vrouw hebben verlaten. Van oplichterij en geld opnemen op den naam van anderen kwam mij niets ter oren. Ik geloof dat de redenen waarom Zwaantje Bruinewoud echtscheiding vraagt, mede in verband staat tot de redenen waarom haar man Roelof Steenbergen uit de dienst bij de nationale militie is ontslagen.
