    John Baardse, aged 77, horticulturalist at the United States Botanical


    Garden, Washington D.C., died - April 11, 1947, after a brief illness.


    Mr. Baardse who was born in Aalsmeer, Holland, came to this country in


    1912. He had been Superintendent of Public Parks in Haarlem, Holland, for


    about 12 years. He settled in Carlstaadt, NJ where for more than 20 years


    he was a horticulturalist in a large nursery. He came here nearly 13


    years ago to work in the Botanical Garden. A specialist in roses and


    azaleas, he at one time developed many new varieties. Mr. Baardse is


    survived by his widow: Mrs Clasina (Aomen) Baardse, two sons: Richard and


    John Baardse, Jr. and three daughters: Mrs. Jennie C. Frey, Mrs Cecilia


    M. Connor, Mrs. Henriette J. Walsh.
