Notes about Herman van den Brink

Herman werd geboren op 26 augustus 1911 in Apeldoorn.
Hij was beroepsmilitair. Nadat de militairen uit krijgsgevangenschap waren teruggekeerd volgde hij een opleiding tot douanier. Na een paar jaar als douanier te hebben gewerkt dook hij bij familie in Arnhem onder. Na de mislukte slag om Arnhem en de daarop volgende evacuatie keerde hij naar Apeldoorn terug. Hij vond er werk bij de messenfabriek.

Herman sloot zich in 1943 aan bij het verzet en zat in een plaatselijke knokploeg (later overgaand in de BS). Hij gaf onderduikers onderdak en hielp bij wapendroppings.
Tijdens een controle op 5 maart 1945 werd Herman op straat aangehouden door de SD. Hij bleek een vals ID-bewijs te hebben en werd opgesloten in de Koning Willem III-kazerne in Apeldoorn.

Op de dag van de executie was Herman 33 jaar oud, hij was gehuwd en had 3 kinderen.
