Notes about Wybe Sjirks "Will" Cnossen

Wybe Sjirk Cnossen emigreerde in 1910 als vrijgezel naar Noord-Amerika. Hij vestigde zich in White Town Michigan en werkte aanvankelijk in de houthakkerkampen in het uiterste noorden van Michigan. In 1927 trouwde Wybe (toen Wil genaamd) met Kate Buning. Hij werkte op de boerderij van haar vader en kocht later die boerderij. Ze bouwden het bedrijf uit tot een succesvol melkveebedrijf, dat tot op de dag van vandaag in de familie Cnossen is. Beginnend met een paar hectare, 6 koeien, 3 paarden en een paar kippen en varkens, is de boerderij nu uitgegroeid tot meer dan 2.000 hectare met 600 melk koeien en ongeveer 500 pinken. In 2003 ontving de Cnossen Dairy Farm een speciale erkenning van de staat Michigan en kreeg het bedrijf de titel "Michigan Centennial Farm", een onderscheiding die kan worden uitgereikt aan boerenbedrijven die meer dan 100 jaar in eigendom van dezelfde familie zijn. De familie Cnossen bezit ook nog steeds de White Town boerderij, waar Will zich vestigde in 1910. Will's zoon, Harold, heeft zijn vaders activiteiten in de zuivel industrie met groot succes uitgebreid. De boerderij wordt nu gerund door Harold's zoon, Robert, samen met zijn drie zonen.
