De Heren van Harff hebben hun naam ontleend van het dorpje Harff bij Bedburg gelegen. Van de hoofdstam zijn twee zonen waarvan Herman verder zich gaat settelen te Reuver in Limburg. In 1318 zegelt Johann met zoon Heinrich. In 1341 zegelt Heinrich von Harve samen met zijn broer Hermann.
