    Van Folkert Ates wordt voor het eerst melding gemaakt in het Stem cohier Oudega (WYM) in 1728: Hij is samen met Adriaen de la Heese eigenaar van nr. 5 te Oudega. Hij was de meijer van deze stemdragende plaats een zathe met een huisinghe groot 42 pondematen. Dezelfde twee vinden we ook op de niet-stemdragende plaats nr. 47 te Oudega.
    In 1738 was hij meijer van nr. 1 te Oudega.
    Uit het stemcohier van Oudega (WYM) blijkt, dat Folkert Ates' weduwemeijer was van nr. 3 te Oudega.
    Het gezin heeft in behoeftige omstandigheden verkeerd, vooral na het overlijden van Folkert Ates.
    In 1746 huurde Folkert Ates een zathe nr. 32 voor 90 caroliguldens. 'Hij kan de lasten niet hoeden', in 1747 zien we hem dan ook niet meer op nr.32, maar op nr. 22. De huur bedroeg daar 50 caroliguldens boven de lasten. In 1748, 1751 en 1754 huurt zijn weduwe dezelfde zathe.
    Bij Folkert Ates' overlijden in 1747/48 was zijn weduwe een arme boerin met een gezin van 3 kinderen boven de 12 jaar en 2 onder de 12 jaar. Uit Quotarisatie Wymbritseradeel 1749 blijkt, dat de aanslag in dequotarisatie 35 caroliguldens bedraagt; haar privevermogen bedroeg toen 850 caroliguldens.
    In 1758 huurde Folkert Ates' weduwe een zathe met huisinghe, groot 100 pondemaat. In 1767 huurde haar zoon Ate deze zathe.
