    In het doopboek van de Hervormde Gemeente van Doniaga c.a. staat de doop van Jeen vermeld onder de naam Jenne op 16 juni 1765. Deze geboorte- en doopdatum kloppen niet met de leeftijd vermeld in de overlijdensakte in 1830 (70 jaar). Gezien het feit dat zijn ouders bij de aangevers van zijn overlijden onbekend waren, mogen wij aannemen dat zij ook niet op de hoogte waren met zijn exacte leeftijd. Omdat hij geboren is in Doniaga en ook vanwege het feit dat de namen Sytse en Eldert (als Ellert) in het nageslacht weer terugkomen (overigens Jeltje niet, maar zo heet zijn echtgenote ook, en daarom wellicht niet verder vernoemd) is er alle reden toe om Sytse Elderts en Jeltje Freerks als zijn ouders te beschouwen
