    Op 22 april 1626 kocht Jacob Stevensz., toen reeds wonende te Harlingen, "seeckere huisinge
    brouwerije ende mourerije met 't gereetschap daartoe behorende" en "mitsgaders seeckere
    stoockhuijs en 't brandewijnketels ende vordere gerrtschap daerbij sijnde" van menist ds. Yme
    Jacobsz. de Ring aan de zoutsloot te Harlingen en Auck Jansdr. voor 2800 goudguldens (Harlingen T
    4 - 185). Waar deze brouwerij gelegen was blijkt niet uit de acte. Jacob Stevensz. werd op zijn
    oude dag nog bierbrouwer en jeneverstoker! Het was Jacob Stevensz. blijkbaar wel voor de wind
    gegaan, want op 7 mei 1614 kwamen zijn schoonouders, toen wonende te Harlingen, 5000 car. gls.
    bij hem lenen, een bedrag waar men in die dagen een boerderij voor kon kopen! (Het Bildt N 1 -
    174). Tot dusver is steeds aangenomen (mede op gezag van de familie-aantekeningen) dat Jacob
    Stevensz. de naam "Kuiken" voerde. Dit is onjuist. De nazaten van Jacobs oudste zoon noemden zich
    "Rozendal". De nakomelingen van de tweede zoon voerden de naam Wassenaar en slechts de nazaten
    van de jongste zoon, Jan Jacobs, hebben de naam "Kuiken" aangenomen. De naam Kuiken zou verband
    kunnen houden met de eerste "Cuycken's" die op het Bildt voorkwamen (in 1527 Jan, Aeryan en
    Cornelis), waarvan het nageslacht zich Cuyck of Kuik noemde. In dit geval zou Marrichie
    Arriensdr., een dochter van Arrien Cuycken kunnen zijn. Een dergelijke overerving van een naam is
    zeer aannemelijk.
