    Willis Verne "Chuck" Oostenbrug was born on October 7, 1921, in Hull, Iowa. He was the son of Gerrit and Jennie (Kooiker) Oostenbrug. He lived his childhood on several farms in the Archer and Primghar areas. He attended school in Archer.

    He was united in marriage to Mary Hannah McGinty of Sioux City, Iowa, on January 14, 1944.

    Chuck served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany.

    After the war, Chuck and Mary settled in Sanborn, Iowa, where they owned and operated Chuck's IGA Grocery Store for 33 years.

    Chuck was an avid golfer and was instrumental in building the Sanborn Golf Course and Country Club.

    He served on several city councils and was a member of the American Legion.

    Chuck loved the Lord and served in many capacities at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn.

    He enjoyed fishing and frequented many lakes in northwest Iowa, as well as in Canada. He taught all of his children and grandchildren to fish and to play cards. Chuck loved to laugh and was a great joke teller.

    He passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010, at Sanford Sheldon Hospital in Sheldon.

    Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 66 years: Mary Oostenbrug of Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, IA; two daughters: Pam Raymond of Adel, IA and Mary Beth Oostenbrug and her husband, Larry Cormicle of Ames, IA; one son: Terry Oostenbrug of Seattle, WA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother: Keith (Carol) Oostenbrug of Spirit Lake, IA; 3 sisters: Edith (Don) Kammerer of Greeley, CO, Marge (Jack) Roos of Greeley, CO, Alice Waanders of Grand Rapids, MI.
