Op 6-1-1945 was Geertje op weg naar haar man die in het ziekenhuis lag.
Zij reed mee met een postauto. De postauto werd beschoten op de Hasselterdijk door Engelse vliegers,
Zwaar gewond werd ze vervoerd naar het ziekenhuis in Zwolle waar zij dezelfde dag overleed. Het bed van haar man was naast haar neergezet, waardoor ook hij het overlijden van zijn vrouw heeft meegemaakt.
