De broers Jan en Feike Douma kwamen vanuit Oosterwierum in 1928 per schip aan in Raalte, waar ze de timmerfabriek "Friesland" oprichtten. In de loop der jaren werd er aan verschillende opdrachten gewerkt waaronder keukens, kasten, ramen, kozijnen en deuren. Uiteindelijk bleef de productie van de deuren over.
