Ditrich Philipp von der Lippe trouwt op 23 November 1752 te Groningen met een doopsgezind meisje Mientje Cornelis van Oldenhove, die op 8 juni 1753 in de Martinikerk te Groningen “als bejaarde” wordt gedoopt. Dit echtpaar kreeg 10 kinderen tussen 1753 en 1772. De doop van deze kinderen vond in 6 verschillende garnizoenen plaats. De derde zoon Willem Carel was de bovengenoemde luitenant. Diens zoon Pieter Willem Jacob Hendrik werd in 1807 gedoopt in Aurich (Oost-Friesland). Het onderdeel waarbij Willem Carel diende werd voor een actie naar Oost- Friesland gestuurd;het was toen de gewoonte, dat de echtgenoten van de officieren met de troep meegingen.


Zijn de 'van der Lippe's' familie van Prins Bernard? Hierop is geen afdoend antwoord te geven. In een boek wordt als mogelijkheid gesteld dat de oudste Von der Lippe: Henricus de Lippia (vermeld 1180-1196) een neef zou kunnen zijn van Bernhardus (II) de Lippia (vermeld 1170-1224), een voorouder van de prins, maar zeker is dat niet. De bovengenoemde Bisschop behoort wel tot de familie van de voorouders van Prins Bernhard.
