Joannes, die Jan genoemd werd, trouwde op 11 november 1897 met Dina Maria Hogeboom uit Raalte, geboren 9 februari 1871 en dochter van Hendrik Hogeboom en Berendina Beumer. Het was die dag groot feest in Raalte want ook zus Gerardina trouwt die dag met Hendrik Jan Veldhuis. Ja, Strookappes zijn niet gek, ze hadden daar toen al begrepen dat samenfeest geven een stuk goedkoper was! Joannes blijft wonen aan de Portlanderdijk en neemt uiteindelijk de boerderij over van zijn vader.
Hij was uiteraard landbouwer van beroep.
