Er is veel verdriet in het gezin als in 1895 ook hier de pokkenziekte toeslaat. Binnen 3 weken sterven drie van de vier kinderen. Alleen de oudste, Piertella Gerdina blijf in leven.

In 1926 wordt het oude huis afgebroken en wordt er onder de architektuur van hun zoon Maarten een nieuw dubbel woonhuis gebouwd.

Kees met zijn vrouw Sien en dochter Cornelia Clazina (Keeke)

Zij zijn beiden in het Familiegraf begraven op de nieuwe kerkelijke
begraafplaats te Veen.

Notes about Cornelis HONCOOP

Cornelis wordt op Zondag 22 April 1860 in de Ned. Herv. Kerk van Veen gedoopt door Ds. Simon Hendrik Buytendijk, predikant te Veen.
In 1865 gaat hij naar de openbare lagere school.
Het hoofd van deze school is meester Peter Adam Exel.
Het schoolgaan is in die tijd nog niet erg belangrijk, want uit de absentielijst blijkt dat Kees in het schooljaar 1865-1866 totaal 132 verzuimdagen heeft.
In 1867 gaat het al wat beter en heeft hij maar 24 verzuimdagen.
Kees komt bij zijn vader in de leer als timmerman, zij doen samen veel klantenwerk.

Op 5 April 1928 wordt in cafe Verbeek te Veen door Notaris Cool te Andel, in tegenwoordigheid van Cornelis van Rijswijk, afslager, als gemachtigde van Corstiaan Herrewijn, sigarenmaker te Veen in het openbaar verkocht het woon-en winkelpand, gelegen aan de Grotestraat 168.
Het wordt ingezet door Teunis Dirk Adriaan Schouten voor Hfl 1.300,00.
Donderdag 12 April vindt in cafe Vos bij toeslag de officiele verkoop plaats.
Het perceel wordt afgemijnd op drie honderd vijf en vijftig gulden door Adrianus Vos, veermen te Veen.
Deze heeft een bod uitgebracht van hfl 1.653,00 en verklaard het geheel te hebben gekocht voor Cornelis Honcoop.
Voor veertig gulden wordt er nog het bestaande kippenhok met negen kippen en een haan bijgekocht.
Het huisje wordt nog tot 1932 verhuurd aan Jan van der Velden (de Teui), daarna wordt het huisje afgebroken en op die plaats wordt een houtloods gebouwd.
Een voor die tijd hele investering, 324 m2 grond voor hfl 1.653,00, echter noodzakelijk voor de uitbreiding van het timmerbedijf.

Kees ontwikkelt zich als expert in het maken van fruitladders, die geheel met de hand gemaakt worden. Op diverse oude ansichtkaarten van Veen staat hij afgebeeld voor het huis bezig met het maken van ladders.
Evenals zijn vader neemt Kees ook het ambt van begraven waar.
Om het boek " Honderd jaar land van Heusden en Altena" lezen we: " De Spaanse Griep van 1918.. Koster Honcoop te Veen, die tevens belast is met de verzorging van begrafenissen, droeg drie weken lang het zwarte gewaad van zijn droefstemminge waardigheid.
Drie weken lang leed aanzeggen in een klein dorp".

In 1893 wordt hij door de Kerkvoogdij van de Ned. Herv. kerk, na het overlijden van zijn vader, in diens plaats aangesteld als koster en blijft dit tot zijn dood in 1936.

Door het Gemeentebestuur van Veen wordt Kees aangesteld als hoofd van de vrijwillige brandweer.
Een oude, met mankracht te bedienen brandspuit stond in het oude brandspuithuisje op het Kerkplein.
Bekende branden waren: de brand op de Vlaas in 1908 en de brand bij Woutjes aan de Grotestraat in 1913.

Samen met zijn broer Albert, Janus Vos en Huib Clement, zijn zij het feestcomite van de onafhankelijkheidsfeesten is 1913. De foto van het feestcomitee is in het familie-archief onder nummer 01725-P10.jpg

In het in 1997 uitgebracht boek "De wetenwaardigheden van de Veense nakomelingen van Aelbert Eeuwoutsz Honcoop (1690-1767) is in hoofstuk
10 veel aandacht besteed aan Kees en Sien met onder andere nogal wat fotomateriaal.
