    Gordon Walter Halverson passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Nov. 13, 2019 at the age of 91. Gordon is survived by his loving wife Shirley, son Bruce (Shelly) Halverson, daughters Lisa (Ben) Honcoop and Gayle (Chris) Johnson as well as his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored. He is also survived by his two sisters, many nieces and nephews, dear friends Barry & Sally Tarr and many extended family and friends.
    Gordon was born in Lougheed, Alberta on Oct. 5, 1928. In 1942 Gordon’s family relocated to Vancouver where Gordon began his career as a machinist at IEL Chainsaws. He went on to work at J. Swan winches until 1972. After many years of vacationing in the Shuswap, Gordon & Shirley fell in love with the area and decided to make Salmon Arm home. Gordon became employed with Newnes Machine where he enjoyed his career until retirement at age 62. One of Gord’s favorite places continued to be Sandy Point Resort. As seasonals, many “happy hours” were hosted on his and Shirley’s deck, lots of laughs were had and many a duck were fed with the grandkids.
    Gordon was very active in the community. He joined the RCMP Auxillary, Salmon Arm Citizens on Patrol and the Shuswap Arena Society. He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
    Our fondest memories of Gord are sure to be his kind and loving smile, his witty sense of humor and one liners, his love of life and his family….let us not forget his love of garage sales and gadgets which earned him the nickname “gadget man”. He would open his shop door to help anyone in need of a little repair. He taught his kids to be kind and respectful and led by example. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
    Our family would like to thank Dr. Heunis for being such a kind and caring doctor, along with the nursing staff at SLGH who were always kind and compassionate.
    At Gordon’s request there will not be a formal service however a “Happy Hour” for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
