Notes about Aernout van der NEER,

Over Aert van der Neer is weinig bekend. Hij was waarschijnlijk in Amsterdam geboren maar trok op een onbekend moment naar Gorcum, waar hij volgens kunstenaarsbiograaf Arnold Houbraken 'Majoor bij de heren van Arkel' was. Hij vestigde zich omstreeks 1632 weer in Amsterdam, als schilder. De landschappen van Aert van der Neer brachten per stuk weinig op en hij kon er nauwelijks van rondkomen. Vanaf 1659 was hij de waard van 'De Graeff van Hollant', een wijntapperij in de Kalverstraat die hij in 1662 wegens faillissement moest sluiten. Hij stierf in 1677 als een berooid man in zijn woning in de Kerkstraat.
