    Mr. Calvin G. Likkel, age 72, of Lynden went to be with his Lord at his home on Thursday, April 22, 2004.

    Born in Eagle Butte, S.D., on April 26, 1931, Cal was a son of Fred and Nancy (Dykstra) Likkel. When he was 3, the family moved to Grangeville, Idaho, to Everett in 1939, and eventually to Lynden in 1943. Cal was married to Mildred VanderWall in Lynden on March 4, 1955. In 1961 Cal and Millie moved to their dairy farm at the corner of Depot and Badger roads and have resided there since that time.

    A member of Third Christian Reformed Church, Mr. Likkel was well known for his hospitality; everyone was welcome to stop by the home for a cup of coffee and to visit.

    Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Likkel, and David's son, Spec. 4 Duane Likkel, who died in action in Vietnam.

    Mr. Likkel is survived at home by his wife, Mildred; children Darryl and wife Jean Likkel, Cindy and husband Gary Honcoop, Karin Likkel and friend Siulun Tam and Ryan and wife Traci Likkel, all of Lynden; grandchildren Todd Likkel and fiance Colleen Martinsen, Jill and Daniel Likkel, Taya and husband Ross Black, Britt, Brandon and Taryn Honcoop and Samuel, Maxwell and Jackson Likkel; brothers Roger and wife Bernita Likkel of Battle Creek, Mich., Stan and wife Lois Likkel of Takysie Lake, B.C., and Ivan and wife Kay Likkel of Lynden; sister Lorraine and husband Bud Brouwer of Bellingham; sister-in-law Gert Likkel of Lynden; and numerous other relatives.

    Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 28, at 1:15 p.m. in Monumenta Cemetery followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in Third Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Alvin VanderGriend officiating.

    Memorials may be made to the mission work of Mike and Jaelyn Libolt, c/o CRM, 1240 North Lakeview Ave., Suite #120, Anaheim, CA 92807-1831.
