    Lawrence µLarry' VanEgdom died Saturday at Hopewell House in Portland.He was 84.

    He was born in Everson, Wash., to Ray and Marie Honcoop VanEgdom. Hegrew up with his nine brothers and sisters in Lynden, Wash.

    He married Dorothy Towes of Ferndale, Wash., on Dec. 22, 1943.

    He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II and served in theEuropean Theater. He settled in Ferndale, Wash., in 1945. He moved toClatskanie in 1965.

    He worked as a construction manager in Washington, Oregon, Alaska andHawaii. He also taught construction management at Oregon StateUniversity.

    In 1996, Larry and Dorothy moved to Scappoose. Larry was activelyinvolved with his church, Warren Community Fellowship, as well as theScappoose Senior Center, where he worked on numerous constructionprojects.

    Survivors include his beloved wife, Dorothy; children, Wayne and CathyVanEgdom of Portland, Karen and Stan Sampair of Clatskanie and AlanVanEgdom of Portland; brothers, Gilbert VanEgdom of Chino, Calif., andMatt VanEgdom of Cupertino, Calif.; sisters, Alice Oltman of Bellingham,Wash., and Dena Coop of Lynden, Wash.; grandchildren, Kelli, Megan,Greg, Lawrence and Ashley; great-grandson, Kai; and several nieces andnephews.

    A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at WarrenCommunity Fellowship Church.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the HopewellHouse, 6171 S.W. Capitol Highway, Portland, OR 97239, or to the WarrenCommunity Fellowship Church.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Columbia Funeral Home in St.Helens.
