Ze ging driemaal op bedevaart naar Jeruzalem en eenmaal naar Santiago de Compostella. Ze is uiteindelijk op bedevaart in Jeruzalem overleden.

Sophia van Rheineck, ovl. 26.09.1176 in Jeruzalem (Duits Hospitaal), begraven in Jeruzalem, ref. nr. 06.03.2004 GrJ389, GrP, ES IV-92.3,53,6 Erfgename van het graafschap Bentheim na het overlijden van haar broer en vader 1150. Is 07.10.1143 aanwezig bij de inwijding van de nieuwe abdijkerk van Egmond. Sophia overleefde haar man 20 jaar. Tijdens een reis naar het Heilige Land (ze bezocht Palestina in 1139, 1173 met haar zoon Otto en 1176) overleed zij in Jeruzalem.
