Hij vertrok in 1780 naar zijn geboorteland, waar zijn familie de plantage "Weltevreden" had aan de rivier de Commewijne.
Hij keerde later weer terug naar Culemborg.
Nicolaas Freher werd in 1786 onder curatele gesteld.
De rekening van zijn curator Mr. J.C. Sontag lopen door tot eind 1794. (R.A.G. Recht. Aren. Graafschap Culemborg, inv. nr 304)
