Globaal: Opleiding bouwvak/tekenaar. 1939 dienstplicht Bergen op Zoom waar kennismaking a.s. echtgenote. Actief in verzet tijdens 2e WO. Na de bevrijding bij politieke Recherche (PRA) mogelijk ook in Alblasserdam actief. Rijkspolitie in o.m. Hoornnaar, Oud-Vossemeer (eiland Tholen), Breskens (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen) en Kwintsheul gemeente Wateringen.

- Militaire dienstplicht
1-4-1980 heeft het departement van defensie op verzoek van Merardus (dd 10-10-1979) een staat van dienst verstrekt.
Hieruit blijkt dat Merardus gediend heeft bij het 3e Regiment Infanterie in daar als persoon is ingelijfd als gewoon dienstplichtige van de lichting 1939 uit de gemeente Ameide onder no. 6 m.i.v. 11-4-1939
Groot verlof m.i.v. 26-5-1940
Heeft gediend bij de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten, Gewest 14, Zuid-Holland-Zuid, District Dordrecht, Strijdend Gedeelte, staf Gorinchem, van 5-5-1945 t/m 31-5-1945 als lid.

Blijkens een schrijven (14-11-1947) van de Algemeen Inspecteur van de Rijkspolitie (Afdeling III, (Personeel) Ag. No. P. 4497/47, is Merardus tijdens de bezetting in bezet gebied, m.i.v. 16-6-1944 ontslagen als wachtmeester der Staatspolitie ter standplaats Zuiddorpe, aan welke betrekking laatselijk een bezoldiging en een pensioengrondslag waren verbonden.

Merardus is m.i.v. van 6-5-1945 weder als ambtenaar van politie in vaste dienst aangesteld op een bezoldiging en met vaststelling van de pensioengrondslag. Over de periode 16-6-1944 tot 6-5-1945 in werkelijke dienst gebleven. Tot 31-12-1944 een schadeloossteling heeft ontvangen. En een schadeloosstelling over het tijdvak 1-1-1945 t/m/ 5-5-1945.
Op 14-11-1947 is Merardus in het schrijven gekenmerkt Afd. III, No. P. 4497/47 (Bur. Personeel) van de Algemeen Inspecteur van Rijkspolitie op verzoek rechtsherstel verleend.

- Koninklijke Marechaussee (KMar) van 2-9-1940 tot 16-6-1944 door ontslag toenmalige overheid. Op last van de Duitse bezetter ging de marechaussee namelijk op in de burgerpolitie. Daarmee verloor het ook de militaire status. De Rijksveldwacht en Gemeenteveldwacht werden opgeheven en ondergebracht bij de Marechaussee. Daardoor ontstond buiten de steden 1 Rijkspolitiekorps onder de naam Marechaussee. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de marechaussee gesplitst in een Korps Rijkspolitie (ter vervanging van de rijks- en gemeenteveldwacht) en de Koninklijke Marechaussee, die weer een militaire status kreeg.

- Totaal 6 maanden gevangen gezeten.
5 maanden in het Huis van Bewaring te 's-Hertogenbosch van april tot september 1944.
1 maand in Kamp Vught, mogelijk september 1944 (officieel Duits: Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch) was een van de drie Duitse concentratiekampen in Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Kamp Vught wordt op 26-10-1944 door de geallieerden bevrijd.

- Sedert ontslag uit kamp Vught ondergedoken daar de Sicherheitspolizei (SiPo) naar hem op zoek was wegens hulpverlening aan een onderduiker.
- Vanaf mei 1945 (na de bevrijding) tot 1-7-1946 werkzaam bij de POD (Politieke Opsporingsdient) District Dordrecht en later PRA (Politieke Recherche Afdeling) te Gorinchem.

Er is onderzoek gedaan naar zijn activiteiten tijdes de Tweede Wereldoorlog mogelijk o.m. naar de (Koninklijke) Marechaussee periode. Dit heeft tot rechtsherstel geleid.

Wachtmeester M. E. Hoeijenbos der Rijkspolitie te Breskens, is met ingang van 1 Juni j.l. bevorderd tot Wacht meester le klas.

Heeft mede deel III ontwikkeld om fraude met kentekenbewijzen tegen te gaan. Heeft in Breskens na een klopjacht met zij karabijn op een uit de dierentuin Antwerpen ontsnapte hyena geschoten.
Heeft zijn dochter aangezet een Centraal bureau voor Fietsen op te richten om voor Fl. 2,50 per jaar de fiets te registreren om deze na verlies/diefstal weer bij de rechtmatige eigenaar terug te brengen.

Was tijdens de politieke perikelen ronde 'De Drie van Breda' persoonlijke lijfwacht van de toenmalige Minister van Justitie Mr. A.A.M. (Dries) van Agt.

Kreeg voorafgaand aan het Kamerdebat in 1972 over de 'Drie van Breda' te maken met bedreigingen en moest door een lijfwacht van de rijkspolitie beschermd worden. Zijn gezin verbleef in die tijd op een geheim adres.
