Relatie met de familie Hobers
Er zijn twee lijnen met de familie Hobers:

Als Gerritdiena 2 jaar is, overlijdt haar moeder. Haar vader hertrouwt een half jaar later met met Jannigjen Hobers. Er komen nog drie broertjes en een zusje bij. In 1839 overlijdt vader Gerrit Martens. Vrij kort daarna dreigt Jannigjen Hobers haar huis in brand te steken. Zij wordt daarom naar het krankzinnigengesticht in Deventer gebracht. Gerritdiena's kleindochter Derkje Espeldoorn trouwt met Gerrit Jan Albers de zoon van Hendrikjen Hobers. Hendrikjen is de nicht van "den krankzinnigen" Jannigjen Hobers.
