Son Willem writes:
"I was born William Hobers, on May the 9th, 1953 in Subiaco, Western Australia. My parents were Uilkje and Pieter Hessel Hobers.
They came from the Netherlands, from a province called Drente near the German border. Mum was a nurse during the war in Holland and Dad was a mechanic. Dad was captured by the Germans in the second world war and had to work in a camp.
They came to Australia from Holland in 1951 by boat with my oldest sister, who was 5 years old. The trip took 6 weeks via the Suez Canal. My second oldest sister was born in 1952, I was born in 1953, and three more sisters came later.
In Australia my dad worked in the timber industry, first as a truck driver and worked his way up to a managerial position."
