Op 10-4-1933 slaagde hij voor de 2-jarige landbouwcursus te Warga: Jacob Hemrica te Warstiens. Op zijn persoonskaart staan als beroepen: boerenknecht en landarbeider. Hij was later conciërge van het gemeentehuis te Stiens.Hij nam afscheid, toen hij 65 was en kreeg toen een onderscheiding: de zilveren medaille, verbonden aan de orde van Oranje Nassau. De burgemeester roemt zijn plichtsgevoel en meldt dat Dieuwke net zo hard meewerkte.

Jacob begon als 12-jarige al te werken op de boerderij van zijn vader te Warstiens bij Warga.Op 14-jarige leeftijd moest hij al op eigen benen staan. In 1947 werd hij koster-grafdelver van de hervormde gemeente in Warstiens. In 1958 werd hij bode- conciërge van Leeuwarderadeel. Het gemeentehuis stond toen in Huizum.
