Christiaan Helmich was begin 1800 fabrikant, winkelier en ondernemer in Oldenzaal. Hij trouwde 4 keer en kreeg 20 kinderen. Zijn vrouwen stierven allen op jeugdige leeftijd. Zijn 1e vrouw Joanna Cornelia Witbroek werd maar 30 jaar, zijn 2e vrouw Johanna Troost werd 35 jaar, zijn 3e vrouw Anna Geertruida Timmer werd 39 jaar en zijn 4e vrouw Joanna Busch werd 54 jaar. Van de 20 kinderen stierven er 6 voor hun vijfde verjaardag. Christiaan Helmich zelf werd 75 jaar, hij stierf op 1 januari 1863.

Christiaan Helmich (Helmig) kocht in 1810 in de Plechelmuskerk te Oldenzaal, bank no. 66, voor de prijs van 88 gulden.
Gezien de prijs moet dit een beste plaats in de kerk geweest zijn. (J.B.A. Velers te Oldenzaal, kerkhistoricus).
