Wilhelmus Massop is geboren in de Geitenwaard bij Herwen (en Aerdt). Later woonde hij met zijn familie in de Methen (nabij de Groessenseweg), Zevenaar. Wilhelmus gaat op 27 januari 1923 met het schip de Kroonland vanuit Antwerpen (Belgie) naar Amerika. Hij is dan 25 jaar oud. In 1929 komt hij terug en trouwt met Johanna Maria Holland. Kort daarna vertrekt het paar naar Amerika waar ze in Early Lake een boerderij houden.
